Thank You For Being So Damn…

Cut Copy takes a different spin on the classic house track and not only give it a new lease on life but make it even better! I love the deep voice saying “house,” such a great sample.

Happy House (Cut Copy Remix)

The master of erotic slap-bass funk is back with a new EP out on Valentine’s Day. The vocals on Baby I’m Yours are a bit cheesy for me but they’re definitely worthy of Valentine’s Day. I prefer the b-side Make You Mine – it’s got a little less cheese and much more sex funk.

Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours (ft. Irfane)

Breakbot – Make You Mine

I only took note of this remix when I found out it the man behind Tobacco is the creative force behind Black Moth Super Rainbow. If you’ve listened to HEALTH before you’d know they can be a bit hard on the ears, well Tobacco’s managed to make the track far more listenable and turned it into a really great song, while still keeping the toughness of the original. The guy’s got a really great ear for percussion – take a listen to his more laid-back work with Black Moth Super Rainbow and get the album Eating Us if you like the tracks.

HEALTH – Die Slow (Tobacco Remix)

Black Moth Super Rainbow – Born On A Day The Sun Didn’t Rise

Black Moth Super Rainbow – Twin Of Myself

Siriusmo just keeps getting better and better. This is the best remix I’ve heard in a while. I’ve heard he’s got two more EPs in the making, they couldn’t come sooner for me.

Gossip – Heavy Cross (Siriusmo Dub)

The Itunes visualiser is getting predictable, why can’t I once again be invincible

Just started getting back into the remixes as of late after a few months break. I realise that there has been a shit load of good stuff which I know I have missed and probably a lot more which I will never know about. The below two playlists contain some new tracks and some not so new ones which have survived the test of time over the last few months since I last posted ADP (last playlist was actually in Feb). Anyway not in the mood to talk so much shit this post so I will get to the point:

When Saints Go Machine – Fail Forever

I got this track a couple of months ago fell in love and then forgot about it until recently when I went to track down some more playlist action. Soon as I started listening to it again I thanked my past self in hooking up my present/near future self with the opportunity to enjoy it like it was fresh again. The vocals are definitely the focus point of the track soothing the listener while the bassy grove settles in. Vocalist has a similar range as Antony Hegaty (Antony & The Johnsons/Blind (Hercules & Love Affair)), that voice which you can listen to all day and a remixes dream.

Fever Ray – Triangle Walks (Rex The Dog Remix)

We all know Fever Ray has one of those voices which suit dance music so perfectly and it would be hard not to make a good remix from her. I think Rex The Dog also knew this and tried his best to capture the power of her vocals in the break downs with a banging melody. Yeah it has all been done before but not this good since Trentemoller. I believe Tiga’s 1,2,3,4 remix of the same track falls a little short.

Doves – Jetstream (Lindstrom Remix)

This has to be one of the most original and intelligent remixes I have ever heard. It is just one of those perfect tracks which does not leave you needing anything else. Standing at 11 and a half minutes and comprising of a 5 minute intro it is the sort of melody which you can just close your eyes and let it take you on that ride. Some absolutely amazing piano work which sounds like it was recorded live. Lindstrom proves that he is in a class completely above 95% of the producers out there, tackling this indie track with abit of bounce and turning it into an infinite disco journey. It sounds like robots jamming in a room full of electronic instruments. First time I heard it I wondered/hoped he would bring the vocals in but I had no idea he would do it in such a way which would make and create the track in its own right. Anyway just listen and let me know what you think.

Phoenix Lisztomani (Classixx Version)

This is one of those perfect little pop songs which every DJ will be keeping in their CD wallet to start a set with. Orignal chord progression and vocals make the track and by keeping it at a tempo which is realitive to Phoenix’s orignal feel Classixx maintain a forumlar already perfected.

M83 – We Own The Sky (Udachi Remix)

As I started listening to this remix I thought it could just simply be a cool edit. I was still happy but it was definitely not enough to make the playlist. This was until Udachi decided to split the atom and drop a catastrophic distorted bomb. Comprising of everything I like about M83 and grinding my teeth at the same time – not much could be better.

Really looking forward to Splendour this weekend make sure you come say hi if you see me standing around…

For now I have to run…

Thanks

Questions, Answers, Fetishes

Ludwig van Beethoven

Whoa, haven’t done this in a while. Some might say too long? I think so. Anywayyy, I’ve got some really cool stuff for you today. First off, I finally found my most sought after track in decent quality. If you haven’t heard this played live in some form you have been seriously deprived. It sounds much better live and I almost feel guilty about giving this out in not-perfect quality, but I couldn’t help myself.

Soulwax – Beathoven (Edit)

I’ve been really enjoying some new material from one of my favourite producers Siriusmo. While he is usually very hit and miss with me, these two tracks from his new EP The Uninvited Guest are both resounding hits to me. My favourite of the two is Nights Off, its got the perfect mix of dark synths, a good melody and driving drums. Apparently, he will be releasing another EP and an album by the end of 2009 on Modeselektor’s new label Monkeytown Records.

Siriusmo – Nights Off

Siriusmo – High Together

As pointed out to me today, Datarock will be playing live on June five at The Zoo in Brisbane. They are touring to support the release of their new album Red which will be available through etcetc in June. The first track on the album is called The Blog so I’m guessing that will be another hilarious stab at computer geeks (wait, does that make me a… shit) in the mould of their classic Computer Camp Love. I have a preview of the album for you with the song Dance! When you hear the catchy-as-fuck riff at the start it seems destined for greatness. Sadly I don’t think it ever reaches such great heights – to me it seems like the track never really gets started and then all of sudden it’s finished already, I think that may be because the chorus isn’t pronounced enough from the verses. Still, it’s a solid track, and definitely worth a listen.

Datarock – Dance!

The fact Dance! is not actually the lead single, rather the track Give It Up is, gives me hope that the rest of the album will have more direction. Give It Up is a better song and is available right now to download from iTunes. The reason I’m not posting it here is I think I have something much better for you. One of the rising stars of French electronic music Chateau Marmont has provided a remix of Give It Up which I much prefer over the original. The duo keep most of the Romeo & Juliet referencing lyrics intact, albeit in robotic vocodered form, and give the track a much stronger electronic feel. I’ve added a similarly awesome remix they did of Poney Poney (a band which Xavier from Justice produces for) and a nice bouncy original track from their Solar Apex EP. Definitely ones to watch for the future.

Datarock – Give It Up (Chateau Marmont Remix)

Poney Poney – Junior (Chateau Marmont Remix)

Chateau Marmont – Anything & Everywhere

This Austrian guy named Parov Stelar seemed to pop up out of the blue recently and I have been loving him ever since. He makes dark electro-house songs that really stand out through his samples of jazz instruments. They are so suave and groove-laden, yet would suit the dance floor at a party really well.

Parov Stelar – Chambermaid Swing

Parov Stelar – Kiss Kiss

Finally, is one of uber-cool French label Kistune’s latest signings Two Door Cinema Club. These guys are from Ireland funnily enough and make poppy guitar rock in a similar vein to Phoenix (whose album is out at the end of the month!!!). Something Good Can Work is featured on Kitsune’s upcoming compilation Maison 7: The Lucky One which looks like it will be a corker.

Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work

Two Door Cinema Club – Hands Off My Cash, Monty

Hope you enjoyed this instalment,

Adso

P.S.
Ratatat were amazing at the Hi-Fi last weekend. Guitar solos, crazy eyes, trippy visuals, bongo solos and rock star moves were aplenty. Even though there was a hint of pre-recordedness (it’s only a two-man band though), I highly recommend seeing them if you ever get the chance.
