My Drinking??

I apologise for another small hiatus, I will not make any excuses because I know you do not care. A couple of albums which have been in my head the last few weeks (excluding Cut Copy’s brilliant “In Ghost Colours”) have been “Foals – Antidote” and “Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s – You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Your Self Into”.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? My Drinking?

I have known about these guys for about a year and a half but have seen very little come from them except a few tracks and a remix here and there. This is because they have been very hard at work producing their newly released album which took a very long time to complete. I was a little unsure of what to expect from the album as I was really just going off their track “We Are Rock Stars” which sounds like a heavy industrial electro/rock clash which is saved by a perfectly smooth indie electro chorus. As much as I enjoy the track I was not in the mood for a full album of this sound. The album begins with the track “Battle Royale” and from this I believed it was going to be a full electro onslaught for the complete 11 songs. I would soon be very pleasantly surprised as the soft guitar chords mixed with 80’s synth pop flowed out of my speakers creating the perfect indie electro rock song with “Dawn Of The Dead”.

The album continued to deliver – the words “Lets Make Out” begun and were accompanied by a tambourine which built into a thumping synthy verse, at this stage I could not help but start to move and look forward to what was ahead. This magic continued throughout the song “Lets Make Out” until some thing strange happens at around 2:14 where the synths get turned on, then off and a new progressive verse begins with kick drum, vocals and bass which then builds and explodes into a massive heavy electro/rock conclusion that Soulwax would be proud of. The track reminds me of the glorious “British Mode” by Goose just because of how well a change is used in the middle of the track.

The next track “Being Bad Feels So Good” tones it back down to that perfect indie feel they got during “Dawn Of The Dead” and the album continues to deliver after this. I am very very excited about this band as I hope they can make it to Australia with a tour this year, would be perfect for Parklife. They remind me of Goose, in the way that they make me feel and it was about this time last year I got a hold of Goose’ album and it was at Parklife I got to see Goose – So I hope this cycle can happen again.

Foals

This is a band I have been trying to keep a very tight eye on ever since I heard the McSleazy remix of Hummer last year. I was unable to hear any thing else until I grabbed their Balloon EP around a month ago and was instantly hooked on their blend of indie rock which reminds me a little of battles/plug in city. I was soon able to purchase their album “Antidote” which would give me a lot of pleasure listening to. I found that songs such as “Cassius”, “The French Open” and “Electric Boom” needed a few listens before they turned from a cool song into a great song. Their repetitive blend of riffs and lyrics start to get imprinted in your mind and you are always looking forward to the next change. You can tell by the tightness of all the different sounds produced by guitars that this band would be very good to see live, so I really hope this can happen this year. Enjoy a few of their tracks and remixes below.
