I was fortunate enough last weekend to get myself to Empire on Friday night to see an absolutely brilliant band. Unfortunately for them their booking agent obviously did not do their homework and the result of Indy Fever caused the dance floor to seem some what lonely. However the lack of crowd did not stop this three piece (Guitar, Synth, Drums) Indy, Electro, Punk Rock, Pop outfit from causing me to dance harder then I had probably ever danced before. The cause of this uncontrollable movement throughout my body was a punk band plugged into the electronic world of dance music. Pomomofo is the name and if I was not the only person on the dance floor then a mosh pit definitely would have been the game.
After listening to the above tracks you might be wondering what I am speaking about – The pop electro sounds of “Late Night City Lights” and “Back at the Club” are not at all indications of how hard this band would rock, just an indication of their commercial value and their diverse taste between Punk and Electro. At many stages during their set I found myself clutching at my chest feeling as if I had just run a marathon. During their more punky songs they had no need for a dance breakdown and it was non stop chaos. It was great to finally see a live electronic band bringing the guitar back with driving solos and power chords when the synth would take the lead.

The above two remixes are also very nice. Boy 8 Bit is a known for his quality takes on bands tracks and Pomomofo were lucky enough to secure his skills in reinventing the track “Back at the Club”. Cicada chose a different path when playing around with the same track, keeping the vocals and layering the song to make it more powerful and fit for a DJ set.

This Weekend – The Klaxons
This weekend I am going to be lucky enough to finally see the Klaxons live, not once but twice. First at their matinee all ages show then that night at their over 18 gig. I do not really have to go on about the Klaxons as they already have more then made it, defining the sound so many bands have been trying to fit into the last 2 years. I will simply leave you with a couple of tracks from their album and also what I believe are the best remixes of their tracks to date.

I think that Justice defined many of our 2006’s in terms of dance music, from hitting the outer shell of commercialism with a female voice telling us that we were her friends to the waters of the place where Jesus spent the first 30 years of his life. Highlights of last year for me were a couple of their remixes,
Scenario Rock – Skitzo Dancer (Justice Remix)
The lyrics and addictive bass of Skitzo Dancer had me hooked until the “Disco, Disco Disco!” loop was put on overkill by just about ever DJ with a set of CDJ’s.

Death From Above 1979 – Blood on our hands (Justice Remix)
This remix blew me away on first listen and I think it would have to be one of the best remixes I have ever heard. Justice’s take on Death From Above 1979 – Blood on our hands – Try to follow the bass and believe me it will take you for a ride.
You think it would be a perfect start to 2007 when it was announced that Justice would be playing Big day out!! O how naïve I was!! Note – Thall shall not ever get excited about a DJ because of his productions ever again!! I built my excitement up for about 3 months to watch two dudes mix other peoples songs terribly – the only saving grace was that they were good songs!
With the release of the cheese filled D.A.N.C.E as their first single off their debut album “Cross” I basically forgot all about them until they were announced for Parklife. I thought I would give the Justice “live” show a chance after listening to some very tight productions on the album. They put on a good show at Parklife and it was a welcome release to see them playing their own productions instead of trying to spin other people’s records.
So Justice for Justice I guess – Have a listen to MSTRKRFT melt the cheese off D.A.N.C.E and a couple of tracks off “Cross” that stand out in my memory of Parklife.

O and make sure you download this set and bring it with you everywhere – was produced by a couple of Sydney boys who have yet to do much else. First recorded set I have not only been able to sit and listen to but also enjoy in a long time. Highlights include Goose to Soulwax and a Kissy sellout Triple. Unfortunately as the name of the set suggest these boys forgot good old Justice!
