I have got Tim from “Chop Shop” to talk you through the track listing to give you more of an idea of exactly what is happening throughout the mix. He can be modest at times (this is a good thing) about his mixing because I personally think it is flawless. Some of my favorite moments of the mix would have to be during the intro when the bass of “Things that Dreams are Made Of” comes blasting through and the NYPC/Green Velvet mash up into the euphoric “Tiga” remix of “The Gossip”. Chop Shop DJS – Another Recycled Spin
“This mix is not about crowd-pleasing as such. It’s definately far from what we usually play. It is not aimed as a pre-party/going out thumper, but a mix that would be perfect to drive to. It was done with 3 cdjs, 2 turntables, and djm800 mixer. The mixing between tracks is relatively simple, as a lot of the tracks were vinyl. Placement of the tracks and levels are almost the only thing to play with here. Along with some sweet FX from the mixer. Enjoy.. ”
-Jason Sparks ft. Siren – Gangsters (Si Begg remix)(12”)-
This record was picked up 2nd hand ages ago. I actually bought it for the flip, but this mix was a perfect starter and mixed perfectly into the following song. Very simple, soft, and very far from your face.
-Human League – Things that Dreams are made of (Instrumental)-
I first heard this version of the track on a Justice set, which is quite surprising considering their style of music. The raw distortion of the opening riff is much tougher than the original, and a definite head-turner. The mix from track 1 to this one is definately my favourite, even though it is ridiculously simple.
-Robb G – 12” Therapy (Bass Kleph mix)(12”)-
Really really wicked 2nd breakdown on this record into quite an energetic and cool bleeping/tight/electro riff. To me, this record compliments the human league track pretty well, especially as it is only mixed in at the 2nd breakdown. Not perfect by all means, but it can be listened to a few times over without getting too sick of it. Computer would help in cases like this, as the mixing could definitely have been a bit tighter.
-Radar – War Out There (Tomboy remix)-
This mix/song selection was a fluke in terms of flow and how the bleeping noises progress as it was the first mix I did, and was chosen for all the wrong reasons. Apart from that, this track is really the start of the 2nd phase in the mix, and is almost the style that I was heading for in terms of the whole set.
-DB vs. Tim Paris – Future Now (Tim Paris mix)(12”)-
Definitely one of my favourite tracks 2 or 3 years back, and definitely one of my favourite tracks today. Unbelievable breakdown, that should almost never be touched or broken. This record is the final phase of the bleeping stage of the set, and without a doubt the best. I apologise for the dirty record.
-Gorillaz – Kids with Guns (Tomboy remix)-
Love this Tomboy guy. Really really appealing remixes. Haven’t heard too many of his original tracks, but I will definitely be looking for them in the future. Small breakdown at the end of Future Now, progresses perfectly from the bleeping arpeggiator of a high scale, into the deep arpeggiated bass of this track. Love it.
-Kelly Reverb – Under my Control (DJ Icey mix)(12”)-
Another 2nd hand record I accidentally stumbled across. Only because I had always liked the style of DJ Icey, but could never find a whole lot of his tracks. It is the 1st time i’ve played it since I bought it. Not sure what genre it is, but it definitely steps the mix up a little more. Introducing repetitive vocals and undeviating siren-like horns, it is a small peak until the next track is brought in and brings the whole level back down again. Again, dirty record, and shit mixing into the song.
-Diplo – Devil Between us-
Can’t believe this track is by Diplo. Very unusual but such a needed and welcomed change. I hope he continues this style with future productions. As mentioned this track brings the set back down slightly from the previous track, yet maintains an edge of club-essence and flow. Small sample from NYPC helps the mix into this track flow a little easier, although you may not obviously notice it. Which is actually what I am looking for.

-Green Velvet – It’s Time to Jack-
-The Gossip – Yr Mangled Heart (Tiga’s Congabreak)-
Riton has transformed this track into a tech-like weapon. This coupled with Green Velvet, makes for an awesome and almost unnoticeable mash of 2 songs. I am becoming a massive fan of Green Velvet lately. I think their productions are just unreal, and this track reminds me exactly of Felix’s Jack U track. These 2 tracks together in my eyes are perfect leading up to Tiga’s take on this Gossip track, which just has the most amazing feeling to it. So deep. I can listen to this track on its own over and over. From here, the mix could have gone a number of ways.
-Antipop vs. Asia Argento – Vampy (In Flagranti)-
The bass in this track is ridiculous. It’s so infectious, and it worked so well as a changeover track to start building the set into a much tougher phase. It continued the flow and energy of the previous track while pulling the set out of such a deep place. In Flagranti is a freak!
-Adam Freeland – We Want Your Soul (Infusion mix)-
I have only just heard this infusion mix of We Want Your Soul. Not sure how old it is, not that it matters too much as it’s so quality it’s almost timeless. The set really takes off and builds from here. So much for making it an easy going driving mix.
-Nick Coleman – Faces of Meth (T-Rek mix)(12”)-
This track has been smashing the clubs for a while now, and although I wouldn’t usually consider a track so popular for this mix, I couldn’t leave it out. It mixes so well into Freeland, that it can be practically forgotten that it’s a mainstream track. Such a haunting and disturbing melody.
-Deadset – Keep Quiet (Deadset mix)-
This was a 4-bar changeover. So ridiculously easy I could teach my mum to do it. It’s the timing and placement of this song that gives it such good effect from the previous tune. I was able to loop a bar of the breakdown to make the mix into the next song very easy to follow when it bounces into it.
-??? Slam – Visions ???(Vitalic mix)(12”)-
Now this is my favourite track of the whole set. I picked this record up 2nd hand for $5. I’ve never heard it before. I have never played this record out before, but have been dying to put it correctly in a mix. I’m sure there would be better songs to bring this into AND out of, but this is what I’ve come up with. Again, this song has a huge amount of feeling. Vitalic. Awesome.
-Muu – Lets Get Sick-
Another weird weird track. Weird vocals, weird beat. Very unique track. Definitely compliments the previous track, although another track that I couldn’t find would have been more engaging.
-Workidz – Twisted (12”)-
At best, a disgusting track. This would be the sort of track played at 5am at the filthiest club around. It was chosen because of how perfect Muu and this track collide. Muu does not have much a buildup, except when it is coupled with this record. This song reaches the pinnacle of depth for this mix. It would be a mistake to try and continue this sort of feeling. Another sloppy noticeable mix.
-Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye (Adam Freeland)-
Freeland barely touches the original of this track, which makes it exceptional. It brings you back up, and stops the feeling of ‘Maybe I shouldn’t be listening to this’ of the previous track. This song obviously marks the final phase of the mix.
-Alex Dolby – Hazy Way (Evil Nine mix)-
This is almost the goodbye track of the mix. Very slow progression and repetition make it so easy to listen to, while still holding a very acute taste. Good mix from last song which was vital at this stage of the mix.
-Eurythmics – Love is a stranger (Ext. 12” mix)(12”)-
The best record I could think of to end with. Hazy Way is by no-means a radio track, which is why choosing a last track to finish feeling good on was difficult. Mixing not that great, but still works. Brings the mood back to an acceptable state.
