And Finally – Presenting GRAFTON PRIMARY LIVE

GRAFTON PRIMARY is coming!!! If you have been following A Derogatory Term over the last few months you would have noted my obsession with a little Sydney band called Grafton Primary. This obsession grew until my need to see the band live expanded, until the only possibility for them to play in Brisbane without spontaneously combusting with anticipation was to organise it myself.

So a few months later the night is nearly upon us and I am using this post as one last chance to show all of you the electronic synthesised magic you may have missed until now. Below are all the Grafton tracks and remixes I have posted in the past, plus a brand new Elroy mix of I Can Cook and an Electro House remix of Relativity by Tommy Trash.

I am now hosting my files so all you need to do is click once on the files below and before you know it they will be playing in your Itunes (or which ever media player you use). Trust me your ears will thank your body for clicking your mouse on the files below. It will repay this small movement by helping your body spasm to the pounding electro sounds of Grafton Primary Live at The Empire Middle Bar on Friday Night.

Download;
Grafton Primary – Relativity
Grafton Primary – Change
Grafton Primary – I Can Cook
Grafton Primary – I Can Cook (Hey Now Remix)
Faker – This Heart Attack (Grafton Primary Remix)
Grafton Primary – Realitivity (Tommy Trash Remix)
Grafton Primary – I Can Cook (Miami Horror Remix)
Grafton Primary – I Can Cook (Elroy Remix)

After the three original tracks (Relativity, Change and I Can Cook) I would highly recommend the Hey Now remix of I Can Cook and the Grafton Primary remix of Faker. Check out Grafton Primary performing Change live at this years Field Day festival in Sydney.

Support for the night will be the a smooth yet thumping electro set from none other then the ChopShop DJS (see related post here ) – expect distorted bass, cow bells, tweaked synthy sirens and funky beats with loads of kick drum. Warming up the night will be Whiskey Tears DJS who are sure to get the kettle the perfect temperature as you find your feet on the dance floor. Closing the night will be the very unpredictable (will it be Electro? Tech? Progressive? – Or maybe Etechsive!?!?!) Steve Tamsitt (Lektrolux DJS) who is guarantied to glue feet to the dance floor till 5am and may leave you wondering what the hell just happened as the earth rotates the suns rays through Empires dark windows.

Well I am personally really looking forward to the night and if all goes well I believe it is going to be an absolute astonishing live show by three brilliant musicians who have decided to take their talents into dance music. It is people like this who I thank every day for providing me with so much fun.
Thank you Grafton Primary and we will see you soon! Remember to buy their EP from itunes

Kissy Sell Out Is The Universe
Summerfeilddayz was an amazing day for one real reason and that was because I finally got to see Kissy Sell Out!! I had been hanging out to see this geezer for a very long time but I did not know how excited I would get when he came out. He played probably the most pleasurable DJ set I had ever witnessed and not even the gravitational force of Jupiter would have been able to pull the smile from my face. I wish I some how planned a way I could have met him because I already miss him.…. he is probably the coolest bunch of atoms in the universe.

Any way here is a Kissy remix which has gone flying under my radar for some time. I have known about it for awhile but for some reason never listened to it or tried to get a hold of it. It is a remix from a DJ/MC duo from NSW called Q45 & Amy B. I accidentally saw Amy B perform at the empire a couple of months ago and she was putting her very smooth vocals over a DJ set and making it sound fantastic and I might add she also looked fantastic. A far cry from good old Seany B who has a habit of spewing all over tracks and making them too disgusting to put the sound waves any wear near your earlobes.

Q45 & Amy B – Naughty (Kissy Sell Out Mix)

Amy B has real talent and was working well with the DJ of the night (it might have been Q45 but I can’t confirm that). I had a listen to some of their originals and they have that sort of electro/house commercial sound to them so they might even be hitting a radio station around you soon (if they have not already???).

The remix is a good one however Kissy has got to start reaching a little further into his pocket for originality track by track because they are starting to all sound a little too similar. This remix follows his traditional formula however his trademark synth solo at around 3:48 is absolutely glorious to listen to.

Cut Copy – Lights and Music

The next thing I would like to share with you is a mix tape cut copy did called “So Cosmic” which they created for some fun and to promote some of their tracks on their upcoming album. It is a sweet spacey mix which is sure to give you some disco education we all need.

The main reason I am posting this however is because of what happens at 37:56 when their next single “Lights and Music” comes in. This track is just ridiculously good and as soon as they release this it is going to explode on any speakers which work including clubs, home and radio.

I first noticed this track live when they played at Daft Punk and I seriously could not get enough of it, the words of the chorus were instantly stuck in my head and I knew I had to some how find out what the hell this magic was.

I took some video footage from that Daft Punk show you can view below – check out 2:37 of the video for snippets of Lights and Music (I was only filming the well known tracks but could not help but film both the chorus’ of this because it was so good).

Chromeo Live

As I mentioned in my last post Chromeo for new years was something very special so lucky for you I put together some great footage of the show so you can see how cool these guys are live. For the Melbourne people who were there you might be able to spot yourself in the crowd if you were up the front. Also got some great photos including a couple with Chromeo.

Run for LCD Soundsystem because James Murphy is King

Some thing that I bought this week that I really should have purchased earlier but never did was the LCD Soundsystem 45:33 Nike Run. It is a 45 min set that King James Murphy put together for Nike. It is amazingly produced and so nice to listen to I will have to remember to take it for a run one day, not that I could ever run for that long but I sure could dance it. With the CD came a few extra tracks which are just LCD classics in particular Freak Out/Starry eyes. Listen for when it turns into Starry Eyes at 8:15 after about a minute and a half drum solo of this 12:22 long track! So great!!

A Litte bit of Daft Punk Goes A Long Way With You

The last track I would like to leave you with is just one I came across today when I was actually looking for the original because I thought it would be cool to mix in. I was very happy when I stumbled across this remix as it is a nice electro remix of the classic Stardust track Music Sounds Better With You from 10 years ago.

Any way I hope you enjoy the music and remember Grafton Primary is coming!!

Kiss My Rain Field Dayz

The post which started all the Derogatory behaviour on this blog over the last 5 Months was a little one about a Kissy Sell Out remix of Operator Please.

Kissy has been one of my favourite remix artists over the last couple of years, ever since I started creeping his myspace with whatever he could produce. His rework of so many big tracks over the last year has seen him rise into superstardom and deservedly so.

I left that first post with the words P.S. Bring Kissy to Australia! Lucky enough I am getting the opportunity on Saturday to see him DJ at Summafieldayz on the Gold Coast. Here is a set of his recorded last Saturday on Triple J which is getting me in the mood to party rain hail or shine.

It is a party set and I hope he producers the same sort of energy on Saturday. I have heard some old sets of his which have been absolutely brilliant, however probably not festival atmosphere as they have been filtered with old school rock throughout. In particular his Sprawled DJ Set which you can find on his podcast site which needs an update.

I will also leave you with a few of my favourite remixes from Kissy over the year although it is hard to choose only a few.

Download;
Operator Please – Just A Song About Ping Pong (Kissy Sell Out’s White Stallion Remix
Calvin Harris – Merry Making At My Place (Kissy Sell Out Remix)
Kissy Sell Out VS The Human League – Things That Dreams Are Made Of
Gwen Stefani – Wind It Up (Kissy Sell Out Remix)
Mark Ronson Feat Daniel Merriwether – Stop Me (Kiss Sell Out’s True Romance)

I had an awesome new years down in Melbourne where I saw Chromeo play an unbelievably entertaining show, I took some photos and video footage so stay tuned for that.
