Your Goose-Step At The Disco Is Shit!

I got a hold of this perfect remix by goose last week on Itunes. I thought I would stop being selfish and share it will all of you as soon as I could.

I found the remix does not sound like just one member of the band has sat down on the Mac and reproduced the tracks of this song. It sounds to me like the whole band is playing a cover of it live. The sound is very much the sound of goose the band and I have a feeling the man on the synth – Dave Martijn (formulary Soulwax’s tour guitarist) had a lot to do with this one. The sound will build up for the majority of the track and explode in an electronic onslaught for the ending. I can just imagine Goose finishing a set with this, the same style as they usually finish with “Everybody” – they should really try to play it live.

See below for a couple of original tracks from UK’s Shitdisco (awesome band) and another fine remix from French electro star Yuksek.

Seeing Muse on Wednesday night!! Can not wait!! Then Round and Round (Midnight Juggernauts, Boys Noize, Bumblebeez, The Glimmers and Chop Shop DJS) on Sunday. Should be a good week for tunes.

I highly recommend;

Get Lucky (MSTRKRFT REMIX) – The MSTRKRFT Remix of New Young Pony club is a catchy little electro pop number. You will find the mixture of the cow bell hitting the off beat, distorted bass, clean lyrics, and running chords causing you to press the play button more then once.

I can Cook (Hey Now Remix) – I have already gone on about both the band who made the track and the people who remixed it in the last post, the driving synths, kick drum and voice are the winners on this track.

5 Feet of Snow (Miami Horror Remix) – I do believe this is one of the best remixes I have heard for quite some time. After listening to the original you can see that the vocals make the track, yet it needs some thing more – And more is exactly what Miami Horror delivers, plugging every thing it has into the wall and replacing the guitar chords with long fuzzy electronic buzzes. No matter how electronic it gets they still keep the structure of the verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus formula of a band. It really just is great.

Summer (Infadels Remix) – Never heard the Infadels remix any thing before but this has got me very excited. Another set of very catchy vocals building into kick drum fueled electro and even knob turning that would make Kissy Sellout jealous towards the end of the track. Another absolutely brilliant remix.

To The Music (Optimo Espacio Remix) – Now this is probably one of the most interesting remixes I have ever heard. Standing at a total of 8 minutes with a 4/4 kick, the same running bass line, intriguing lyrics and a mixture of clean electronic sounds for the first about 3.10 of the track. You begin to think with another 5 mins left that this song is going to turn out quite bland. That all changes when all those squeaky clean sounds suddenly get dirt all over them. The next 4 mins with another verse of lyrics turn to absolutely disgusting electro. This is definitely a track for certain tastes but I love it. P.S. Please don’t play it on laptop speakers.

Any ways, hope you enjoy.

Hey, now it’s your one stop Grafton shop in Miami!”

Lost Valentinos – 17 Deaths (Hey Now Remix)
The Dirty Secrets – 5 Feet of Snow (Miami Horror Remix)

See I told you!!! I am not always right but seldom am I wrong, or is it seldom am I right but I am always wrong? O I can’t remember whatever; you don’t even know me right?

Just listen to the tracks and enjoy some high quality shit people!!

Any way I am not really in the mood to talk about the highs and lows of the decibels because I am too busy listening to them. However I can highly recommend the Valentinos Hey Now Remix after a big night. When the vocals drop in at 1.48 you may find your self screaming and punching your fist out to the beat, wishing you could go back to the club and hear it on their system. Probably one of the coolest changes I have heard in a track.

Just In!! – Grafton Primary having a go at the remix game themselves and hitting it right on the spot with this very smooth remix of another great Aussie band Faker

Download;
Faker – This Heart Attack (Grafton Primary Remix)

Got to love the synths!

I will leave you with some of my favorite lyrics from Grafton Primary’s I can cook;

“I adore your love more then drugs in my system, these days I don’t miss them, I just want you’re kissing”

Kings of The Jungle Restrained to The Zoo

Tomorrow night (Wednesday 7 November) is going to be very special, I am getting the opportunity to see 2 great bands I have never seen before play at my favorite venue in Brisbane for $17.50, and the funny thing is they are not even headlining!!

The Soft Tigers

Firstly The Soft Tigers, an amazingly unique band out of Sydney who have just released their debut album Gospel Ambitions. An album who’s theme is one we can all relate to – being young and having fun. I believe the band had a moment while writing this CD that their sound would fit to the trials and tribulations of pre teen and adolescent life perfectly. It is almost like a really good movie in the way the whole album makes you feel emotions. Those emotions will bring a slight smirk to your face as you too reminisce about those days when “school sucked” yet some how nothing has ever been as good since.

Download;
Soft Tigers – Mr Ice Cream

Mr Ice Cream is a simple song about a hot summers day when it is too hot to even play on the street and the feeling the Ice Cream Man can give you as he plays that repetitive tune (A little like what a DJ can do today).

Download;
Soft Tigers – Mr Ice Cream (Miami Horror Remix)

This is a fantastic remix from a couple of guys out of Melbourne who have overly impressed me as of late with their last 4 remixes (will post them all in the next play list). It’s a great track.

Download;
Soft Tigers – Making Love

Making love is a story of a young couple believing they are making love in their parent’s bed rather then just having sex. The guy even picks her up on his BMX. The end of the song is absolutely brilliant with the couple expressing their feelings from the front door to the bed room which involves nerves, excitement, anticipation and I bet a whole lot of hormones.

Download;
Soft Tigers – Karate

I know not all of us took Karate lessons when we were younger but I bet we all know some one who did. I know I was always envious of that kid who took lessons until I realised that the only thing they were karate chopping for an hour was the air. This is a really cool, quirky, catchy track with some real electronic sounds coming through, it needs to be remixed.

Van She

This is probably the one Australian band that I have been into for the longest who for some reason I have never seen live. Van She out of Sydney (Maybe I should move there) are a 4 piece modern 80’s Synth outfit who make melodic poppy electro which really puts a smile on your face. They are yet to release an album so that is some thing to really look forward to. I think they have spent a bit of time the last year recording, and touring overseas so that might be the reason why they have not popped up in front of me yet. They have become popular within the dance scene the last year for their absolutely brilliant remix work as Van She Tech. I will let the tracks do the talking.

Any way hopefully I will soon be posting about Cut Copy and Para One who I am seeing on Friday Night, so I will let you know how the gig goes.
It’s not too late to get a ticket for the Soft Tigers and Van She show – both bands are supporting Operator Please tomorrow night (Wednesday 7 November) at The Zoo, get tickets from here or on the door if its not sold out (which I do not think it will because of Uni exams).

Indy Fever – People don’t Dance No More

I think it would be wrong to keep this blog to dance music when Indie Rock will always live closest to my heart. I will give you a feel of some albums that have excited and entertained me throughout this year plus their corresponding remix. Although some of the bands below are definitely crossing over to the dance spectrum you will always find them slicing the prism of Indie Rock.

(Buy all the above tracks from Itunes)

I highly recommend The Sunshine Underground Remix – the track got me into the band.

The Bloc Party – Uniform remix is a masterpiece and should be listened to with patience and grace.

I was lucky enough to see all the above bands live this year except for The Sunshine Underground who I hope a festival like the V Festival will be cool enough to bring.

The double Klaxons show last weekend was crazy, unfortunately I can not remember enough to blog about it. All I know is that when they played 4 Horseman of 2012 as their encore I nearly went into cardiorespriatory arrest.

This weekend I am hoping will be a little more quiet, although Larry Tee (New York City) is playing at the Empire on Friday night. The more I listen to the grinding bass at about 1:30 of the Herve remix of his track with Princess Superstar the more I think it would be silly to miss. He is apparently an absolute veteran of the electro scene so I have a feeling his set would be very educational.

I will be posting a couple of entries next week as I will be seeing Van She, Soft Tigers, Cut Copy and Para One all in the one week (you should come) – Very excited. Stay Tuned.
