A Part of the Weekend Never Dies

I thought it would only make sense to post some thing about Soulwax as they are my Gods. As much as I like dancing to Nite Versions nothing will ever beat their original rock material. Their set at Big Day Out 06 still stands as the best hour in my life.

I will start with their first album “Leave the Story Untold” released in 1996 before I think the Dewaele’s owned at synthesiser (probably not but they weren’t using one). It’s all indie rock and I think it rocks. For a taste try.

Soulwax – Caramel (Itunes)

Soulwax – Great Continental Suicide Note (Itunes)

Next is the amazing “Much Against Everyone’s Advice” released in 1998, the beginnings of their trademark electro/rock sound is starting to be heard throughout the album, check out My Cruel Joke in particular for a real electronic/dance feel, I would call it the NY Excuse of Much Againts Everyone’s Advice. I would probably call Too Many DJS the E Talking.

Soulwax – Too Many DJS (Itunes)

Soulwax – My Cruel Joke (Itunes)

And finally their most recent Album (Not including Nite Versions) “Any Minute Now” released in 2004 – 6 long years after their last. My Favourite Tracks from Any Minute Now you might not have heard

Soulwax – Please…Don’t Be yourself (Itunes)

Soulwax – Slowdance (Itunes)

Can not wait for the next album and Soulwax have said that it will be on its way. However when I was talking to David earlier this year at the Met at a Nite Versions show I asked him how long it will be, his simple reply was how long was it inbetween our last?? 6 YEARS!! So it might be another 3 years till we are graced with the genius which is Soulwax the band.

Before that at least we have Die Verboten to look forward to, the Dewaele’s side project with Riton and his brother in law Fergus. You just know its going to be good! Also the Soulwax Documentary which is premiering in Ghent (their home town in Belgium) in October, I am hoping there is some footage of them in Brisbane.

Check out some of the photos taken from their show at the Met in Brisbane. I was lucky enough to be able to go back stage and meet the band and get my “Any Minute Now” Record signed. Could only dream of such an opportunity but it happened! Dave is a great guy.

(See if you can spot me on stage with my Any Minute Now Record which was later signed by the band).

Check out a video some one took of Krack at the Met that night (was an awesome show).
